Suspect detained after remains of missing woman found inside bag

SEREMBAN: Police have detained a 41-year-old suspect after a woman’s remains were discovered buried inside a bag behind a house in Pedas near here.

State deputy CPO Senior Asst Comm Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said the suspect was detained on Thursday evening (Dec 18) in Melaka.

"We have obtained a court order to remand the suspect for seven days until next Thursday.

"A post mortem will be carried out on Friday on the victim's remains to establish her identity and cause of death," he said.

SAC Muhammad Idzam said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

On Thursday, state CPO Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the deceased was believed to be a 53-year-old woman reported missing in Ampang, Selangor on Monday (Dec 15).

The woman, identified as Suri Narudin, was said to have been unreachable since Dec 8.

The report was later forwarded to the Pedas police station, prompting a search at a house on Jalan Pedas-Linggi.

During the inspection, police discovered a bag containing a woman's body buried at the back of the house.

He also urged those with any information related to the case to contact the Rembau police headquarters hotline at 06-685 2222.
