KUALA LUMPUR: Historic public space Medan Pasar is set to be revitalised as part of efforts to build a more climate-resilient Kuala Lumpur - a Sponge City that is better prepared for heavy rain and a changing climate.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the project would be carried out through a collaboration between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Yayasan Creador, incorporating nature-based solutions, including improved rainwater management.
She said the revitalisation is also aimed at making it more open, accessible and welcoming to the community while preserving its historic character and heritage.
"This is not just about making Medan Pasar look better. It is about creating public spaces that serve people better, strengthen our communities and make our city more liveable," she said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Aug 13).
Medan Pasar, also known as Market Square, is located near the Masjid Jamek area in central Kuala Lumpur, with nearby landmarks including Central Market, Chinatown and Merdeka Square. – Bernama
