Collision claims lives of father, son in Jeli

JELI: A father and his teenage son were killed when their multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) overturned and fell down a roadside embankment after colliding with another car in Kampung Batu Melintang on Thursday, (Dec 18).

The accident, which occurred at about 1.50pm, involved an MPV and a Sedan.

The 39-year-old driver of the MPV and his 16-year-old son suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, reported Sinar Harian.

Jeli Fire and Rescue station chief Azhar Elmi Mustofar said his department received an emergency call at 1.59pm and arrived at the scene at 2.14pm.

“Upon arrival, the operations commander conducted an initial assessment and confirmed a head-on collision involving the two vehicles,” he said.

He added that the MPV had overturned before plunging down an embankment, leaving both occupants trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters used a hydraulic rescue cutter to extricate the victims.

Both victims died at the scene.

Their remains were later handed over to the police for further action before being sent to Hospital Jeli’s forensic unit for a post-mortem.

The driver of the sedan sustained only minor injuries in the incident.

The case is still being investigated.
