WITH Indians holding just 3.6% of government jobs, the community risks disappearing entirely from public service, Malaysia Nanban quoted M. Kulasegaran as saying.
The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Law and Institutional Reform said this at a seminar in Ipoh aimed at encouraging Indian youths to enter the civil service.
Organised by his Ipoh Barat parliamentary constituency office and Persatuan Penjawat Awam Kaum India Putrajaya (Imaiyam), the event drew about 1,500 participants.
Kulasegaran said 20 years ago, Indians held about 10% of the jobs in government service, but the figure has since fallen sharply.
He stressed that the trend must be reversed by guiding youths on application procedures, skills development and the benefits of a public service career.
