Sabah polls show voters prefer local parties that align with federal govt, says Saifuddin

KULIM: The results of the recent Sabah Election indicates that the people of Sabah tend to choose local parties that are friendly to the federal unity government, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Pakatan Harapan secretary-general said the results also show that Sabahans want a state government that can work hand-in-hand and cooperate with the federal government.

"Unlike political analysts and observers who provided commentary on the Sabah Election, we have finished analysing the results by polling channels... not just by polling district but every channel.

"The important message we can learn is – first, Sabahans prioritise local parties, which is 'Sabah for Sabahans'.

"Because this sentiment is strong, the biggest beneficiaries are two parties, namely Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Parti Warisan. That is clear," he told reporters after officiating a back-to-school programme here on Saturday (Dec 13).

He said that even though GRS and Warisan received large support, based on the analysis conducted, GRS' victory surpassed Warisan's.

"So the recent victory is a victory for the unity government. It is true that Pakatan did not win many seats but what is much more important is the victory of unity," he said. – Bernama
