JB floods: 34 rescued from private kindergarten in Larkin


JOHOR BARU: Some 34 people were evacuated from a private kindergarten in Jalan Md Amin near here when the place was hit by a flash flood on Friday (Dec 12).

Larkin Fire and Rescue Station fire chief Mohd Suhaimi Abdul Jamal said they received a call at 4.26pm when the flood water started to rise following a heavy downpour at 3.30pm.

He said nine firemen from the Larkin Fire and Rescue station and a Fire Rapid Tender (FRT) vehicle were deployed to the site located about 5km away from the station.

“The operation was assisted by four policemen in rescuing the victims using a boat," Suhaimi said in a statement.

He said those rescued from Tadika Umi Ku Sayang were five teachers, a cook, 18 infants and 10 kindergarten pupils.

Similarly, a baby girl was also rescued from a house at Jalan Limau Purut, Pengkalan Rinting, Kampung Pasir, in Tampoi near here.

Kempas Fire and Rescue Station chief Muhammad Taufiq Atan said they received a distress call from the babysitter at 4.38pm that flood water had already started to enter her house.

“The babysitter was worried about her safety and the baby girl," he said in a statement, adding the rescued baby was handed over to her mother.

Taufiq said the operation involved six firemen from the Kempas Fire and Rescue Station, led by operation commander senior officer 1 Wan Nor Afandi Wan Yussoff.
