Ling and media chiefs recognised for contributions
KUALA LUMPUR: Former MCA president and ex-transport minister Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik was given a lifetime award by the Malaysia Chinese Assembly Hall (MCAH) last night.
Dr Ling, who was not able to attend the ceremony, received the Outstanding Chinese Lifetime Achievement Excellence Award in conjunction with MCAH’s 22nd anniversary at its Second Chinese Elite Dragon Award Gala Dinner.
Dr Ling served as the country’s Transport Minister for 17 years, from 1986 to 2003.
He was also a long-serving MCA politician.
At the ceremony, Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai and Sin Chew group chief editor Datuk Kuik Cheng Kang were also bestowed the Outstanding Chinese Media Influential Award.
Wong, the former advisor of Star Media Group Berhad, has over 40 years of experience in the media industry.
The MCAH presented the awards across 11 categories to 22 recipients.
The event was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, together with Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Also in attendance were the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, and representatives from more than 50 foreign embassies.
MCAH is a national umbrella organisation comprising nearly 200 Chinese associations across Malaysia, covering education, culture, commerce, youth, women’s groups, social welfare and philanthropy.
