Court gives prosecution one week to reassess appeal against Syed Saddiq’s acquittal

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court has given the prosecution one week to reassess its appeal over the decision to acquit Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman of four charges of misappropriating Bersatu Youth funds.

The three-judge panel, led by Court of Appeal President Datuk Abu Bakar Jais, also requested for both the prosecution and defence to reconsider their submitted arguments, reported Sinar Harian.

"Both parties need to take a step back and carefully re-evaluate their positions. I will give you one week," he stated on Friday (Dec 12).

"If you feel strongly about this appeal and believe it should be decided by this court or that we need to review it, please present your respective positions to us," he added.

On June 25, the Court of Appeal acquitted and discharged Syed Saddiq after allowing his appeal to set aside his conviction and sentence of seven years’ imprisonment, two strokes of the cane and a RM10mil fine imposed by the High Court on Nov 9, 2023.
