PAS' Karambunai rep to support Hajiji's leadership, says Tuan Ibrahim

KUANTAN: PAS has given approval for Karambunai assemblyman Datuk Dr Aliakbar Gulasan to support Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party's decision was relauyed to the Perikatan Nasional supreme council meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (Dec 9).

"Although we are not part of the Sabah Cabinet, PAS' stance is to support Hajiji as Chief Minister," he told reporters after attending the Pahang State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang on Thursday (Dec 11).

In the 17th Sabah Election, Aliakbar, won the 11-cornered contest for the Karambunai seat, defeating incumbent Datuk Yakub Khan of Barisan Nasional.

Tuan Ibrahim expressed confidence that the Sabah administration would be strengthened through Hajiji's experience and PAS' support for his leadership.

"Aliakbar's good rapport with Hajiji will make it easier for him to carry out his duties as the assemblyman elected by the people of Karambunai," he said.

Asked if the decision went against a statement made by Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Tuan Ibrahim said the issue did not arise as the Karambunai assemblyman was from PAS.

"We have already informed the Perikatan meeting of this matter," he said.

On Wednesday (Dec 10), Muhyiddin said that Perikatan had decided that Aliakbar would remain in the Opposition. – Bernama
