Son arrested after allegedly threatening to kill mother in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to kill his mother at their home in Batu 2, Jalan Apas, Tawau.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 10) that the incident happened at about 7.30pm on Saturday (Dec 6) when the 58-year-old woman refused her son’s request for money.

The situation escalated when the man began punching the wall and uttering threats, leaving the victim frightened enough to lodge a police report.

ACP Jasmin said a Criminal Investigation Department team later tracked the suspect to the Batu 2 area at around 3pm on Sunday (Dec 7).

“When officers moved in, the suspect attempted to flee by jumping into a nearby drain, and the police apprehended him,” he said.

He added that the suspect is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

“Police will not compromise on any form of criminal threat, including those involving family members. Firm action will be taken against anyone who endangers public safety,” he said.
