IPOH: Perak is steering its economic growth around Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, ensuring development benefits both its people and the environment, says state executive councillor Teh Kok Lim.
The science, environment and green technology committee chairman said the state government was reaffirming its commitment to a development framework that promotes responsible industrialisation and accelerates green technology as a growth engine.
He said the state aimed to build a competitive, future-ready, and resilient economy that creates quality jobs, uplifts communities, and protects natural heritage.
“The state government recognises that sustainability is no longer a choice, but a core requirement.
“In other words, ESG has become an economic imperative for industries that seek to remain competitive in the next decade.
“Our policies will focus on responsible industrialisation, green technology adoption, and governance meeting global standards,” he said in his speech after the closing of the Green Tech Perak 2025 forum at a hotel here on Wednesday (Dec 10).
Teh said high-impact projects like Silver Valley Technology Park, and Lumut Maritime Industrial City are being delivered as ESG-driven, and investment-ready ecosystems that drive the state’s economic growth through renewable energy, green manufacturing, high-value maritime services and a circular economy.
He said Perak was also upgrading critical infrastructure, including the North Perak Water Supply Scheme, the Hydro Life Extension Programme and smart solar street lighting across municipalities.
“These initiatives extend the green transition beyond industrial zones, improving communities, liveability, and investor confidence.
“Programmes like the Tropical Tree Planting and Perak Science Fair further cultivate environmental awareness and scientific curiosity, preparing the next generation to lead the state’s green transition,” he said.
Teh said the forum also emphasised the need for collaboration across sectors.
He also encouraged participants to convert insights from the forum into concrete actions, projects, and measurable outcomes that support Perak’s long-term sustainability goals.
“I am confident that a prosperous, resilient, low-carbon, and inclusive Perak is within reach, provided there is unity across government, industry, and society,” he said.
