PETALING JAYA: Malaysians must possess MyKad and an active driving license in order to be eligible for the petrol subsidy Budi95, says Anthony Loke.
Addressing reports claiming those who failed to pay their summonses will lose their Budi95 eligibility, the Transport Minister stated that the two conditions must be met by Malaysians to enjoy the 300-litre petrol subsidy.
“The ministry would like to clarify that the outstanding summonses and the Budi95 petrol subsidy eligibility are two different mechanisms and operate separately.
“The two are not the same thing and are not automatically linked to each other,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 9).

According to the current policy, Loke said Malaysians must fulfil two basic conditions to be eligible for Budi95 -- a valid MyKad identification card and an active driving license.
“The active driving license refers to licenses that are still within the validity period and have not expired for more than three years.
“The ministry advised the public to continue to adhere to the laws to ensure the safety of road users,” he said.
It was reported in The Star earlier that errant drivers who did not settle their traffic summonses risk being taken off the road as authorities tighten enforcement efforts.
Failure to pay the outstanding penalties includes being barred from renewing their driving licence or road tax, face court action and losing Budi95 entitlement as the petrol subsidy is tied to their driving licence.
