THE Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED) has provided RM8mil in financial aid to Indian students in Perak as of November, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Perak MIC chairman Tan Sri M. Ramasamy said the funds were part of the RM25mil disbursed by the education arm of MIC.

MIED is in the midst of reviewing applications that are still coming in, he added.

Ramasamy said this after handing out some RM200,000 in funds to Indian students from Perak at the state MIC office on Saturday.

MIED also provides financial assistance to deserving students from other communities, including a Chinese student who was present at the ceremony.

He also said MIC has undertaken efforts to improve the community’s standing, including founding institutions which have produced capable graduates.
