Crashed microlight aircraft was MSAF-registered

TAPAH: The microlight aircraft that crashed near the open area of Tekah Airport in Taiping is registered with the Malaysian Sports Aviation Federation (MSAF).

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said checks also revealed that the pilot and trainee involved are registered under the same federation.

"The incident has been reported to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), which will conduct further investigations," he said.

He was speaking after the handover ceremony for the Tapah police chief and chairman of the Police Family Association (Perkep) at the district police headquarters here on Tuesday (Dec 9).

The ceremony saw Supt Abdul Malik Hasim replace Johari Yahaya, who will transfer to Nilai district police headquarters as the new police chief.

On Monday (Dec 8), Taiping police chief ACP Mohamad Nasir Ismail reportedly said that police were notified of the crash at 10.30am last Sunday (Dec 7) via the NG MERS 999 system.

He said the injured pilot, 46, and trainee, 40, were taken to Taiping Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. Preliminary findings show that the aircraft made an emergency landing due to engine failure. – Bernama
