Jaywalker hit by motorbike while chatting with lorry driver on JB road

JOHOR BARU: A 52-year-old man has been injured after he was hit by a motorcycle while jaywalking near the Perling toll plaza here.

Johor Baru North acting OCPD Supt Azrol Anuar Nor said the incident took place at 9.35am on Saturday (Dec 6) at the southbound motorcycle lane heading towards the toll plaza.

"The pedestrian was walking on the motorcycle lane and was hit by an approaching motorcycle.

"He sustained injuries to his left leg, body and face and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Iskandar Puteri," he said in a statement on Sunday (Dec 7).

The 46-year-old motorcyclist did not suffer any injuries, he added.

A dashcam recording of the incident circulating on social media shows the man walking beside a slow-moving lorry before stepping into the motorcycle lane while chatting with the driver.

The motorcycle approaching from behind was unable to stop and crashed into him.

Supt Azrol said investigations are ongoing to determine why the victim was walking on the busy road.

The case is being investigated under Rule 41 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for pedestrians being careless at a crossing, leading to an accident.

He also urged witnesses or those with further information to contact investigating officer Sgt Al Fiean Jimin at 010-930 5810.
