Fear of tiger grips residents of Perak town


IPOH: A town near Chemor has been shaken by what is believed to be a tiger attack, leaving ­several cattle dead and others ­unaccounted for in Bukit Bangkong, Tanah Hitam.

Bukit Bangkong sits roughly 20km from Ipoh.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the alarm was raised after a livestock owner lodged a report on Friday evening, claiming two of his cattle were found mauled to death with bite marks, while five more had vanished.

“Perhilitan has since installed camera traps to confirm whether a tiger is prowling nearby,” he said in a statement yesterday urging the public to report any sightings or activity to police or Perhilitan without delay.

“Residents should stay alert, avoid the forest edge and never attempt to provoke wild animals,” he said adding monitoring will continue to ensure proper risk assessment, safeguard residents and manage any wildlife danger.

Perak Perhilitan director Yusoff Shariff said personnel were on the ground that night to set up a camera and returned the next morning, but detected no sign of the tiger returning.
