KUALA LUMPUR: The floods in four states have started receding, with the number of evacuees sheltering in temporary relief centres (PPS) continuing to decrease to 4,062 people yesterday afternoon, down from 4,604 on Tuesday.
In Perlis, the situation is steadily improving with the number of evacuees dropping to 288 people, with one more PPS closing as of 4pm yesterday, compared to 331 victims in four centres yesterday morning.
Based on the Perlis Disaster Management Secretariat, three PPS remain operational in Padang Besar and Arau.
In Perak, flood conditions have eased yesterday afternoon, with the numbers reducing to 3,002 people from 872 families still sheltering in 19 PPS across five districts. This is down from 3,156 people from 927 families yesterday morning.
The Perak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat reported that Hilir Perak district still records the highest number of evacuees at 1,471 people, followed by Bagan Datuk with 830, Manjung (438), Perak Tengah (248) and Larut, Matang and Selama (15), Bernama reported.
In Selangor, the number of evacuees in PPS fell to 740 people from 234 families yesterday afternoon, down from 993 individuals from 291 families yesterday morning.
The Social Welfare Department (JKM) Infobencana website reported that the number of operational PPS has also dropped to nine, located in Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam, down from 19 yesterday morning.
In Pahang, all PPS in the Bera district have been closed. This leaves just 32 evacuees from seven families still sheltering in two PPS across the state, compared to 124 people from 34 families in six PPS yesterday morning.
JKM’s Infobencana portal reported that as of 3.10pm yesterday, 25 individuals from six families remain sheltered in a single PPS in Maran, while a family of seven is housed in a PPS in Kuantan.
