Human Resources Ministry prioritises employability for skills trainees in emerging sectors

KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Resources Ministry will ensure that skills trainees who are funded by the Skills Development Fund Corporation are employable, says Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad.

The Deputy Human Resources Minister said this also includes emerging sectors such as electric vehicles (EV).

"We have formed a cooperation between EV players and our training centres.

"We have tie-ups with companies such as Huawei and even PETRONAS for professional divers," he told the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Dec 3) when winding up debates on the Skills Development Fund (Amendment) Bill 2025.

"We want to ensure that they can find the right placements," he added

He said this would ensure the trainees' employability.

He said this in response to a question from Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who inquired about the processing of applications based on market needs and demands, particularly for emerging sectors like EV.

"How long will it take to evaluate a course and how can we ensure that those who undergo this course do not lose out, whereby they are given the right training according to the needs of the industry and market?

"How can the government ensure that there is no mismatch and youths will gain the maximum benefits?" asked Dr Wee.

The Skills Development Fund (Amendment) Bill 2025 was passed in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Dec 3).
