Eight MPs secure wins in Sabah state polls

KOTA KINABALU: Eight of the 15 MPs who contested in the Sabah polls won their seats.

The winners in Saturday’s polls were Warisan’s Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis for the Usukan seat and Semporna MP Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal for Senallang.

Upko’s Penampang MP Datuk Ewon Benedick won Kadamaian, and Tuaran MP Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau secured the Tamparuli seat.

Keningau MP Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan from Sabah STAR won Tambunan.

The others were Barisan Nasional’s Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who won the seat in Lamag, and Pensiangan MP Datuk Seri Arthur Kurup from Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah in Sook.

Warisan’s Lahad Datu MP Datuk Mohammad Yusof Apdal won Silam.

Seven MPs lost the Sabah election, including Barisan’s Kimanis MP Datuk Mohamad Alamin, who is Deputy Foreign Minister. He lost the Bongawan seat, while Sabah Umno information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir (Libaran MP) was defeated in Sungai Sibuga.

The other was DAP’s Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin, who is Kota Kinabalu MP. He lost the Tanjung Aru seat, while Sabah DAP secretary and Sandakan MP Vivian Wong failed to secure Elopura.

Kota Marudu MP and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat’s deputy president Datuk Wetrom Bahanda failed to win Matunggong.

His brother, black wave’s leader Datuk Verdon Bahanda (Kudat MP), lost in Tanjong Kapur.

Sabah Perikatan Nasional chief Datuk Ronald Kiandee, who is Beluran MP, lost Sugut to GRS’s Datuk James Ratib.
