Sabah polls: EC hopes for over 60% voter turnout despite erratic weather

TUARAN: The Election Commission (EC) is hoping for a turnout exceeding 60% given the erratic weather conditions in Sabah, says its chairman, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.

Ramlan said the figure also takes into account the turnout during the previous Sabah polls.

“Of course, we are working towards improving the turnout rate. With the current weather conditions, we hope for it to exceed 60%,” he said after visiting the polling centre here on Friday (Nov 29).

Ramlan reminded voters that polling centres will be open between 7.30am to 5pm.

There will however be several centres which will be closed earlier.

“Given the current conditions, everyone should have the opportunity to exercise the right to vote,” he said.

Sabah will head to the polls on Saturday, (Nov 29) with heavy rains having been forecasted across the state.
