Sabah police report 50% drop in election offences compared to 2020

KOTA KINABALU: The number of reports on election offences in Sabah has dropped by half compared to the 2020 state polls, says Datuk Jauteh Dikun.

The Sabah Police Commissioner said that as of Thursday (Nov 27), a total of 110 reports had been received—marking a 50% decrease.

"This shows political maturity, discipline and professionalism within the community in facing this state election," he said during a press conference at the Kota Kinabalu Police Headquarters.

Jauteh added that the improved cooperation between police and the community, as well as greater awareness, have contributed to this positive trend.

For Saturday’s (Nov 29) election, over 8,000 police personnel and officers have been deployed statewide to ensure safety and a smooth electoral process.

He reminded police officers to maintain professionalism, integrity, and neutrality throughout their duties.

Jauteh also urged the public to approach police personnel or visit the nearest police station if they encounter any provocation, and warned against provoking others during the election.

He advised voters to plan their journeys carefully as heavier traffic is expected, and encouraged everyone to abide by road regulations and drive safely.

"Let us keep this positive momentum that we have seen until after the Nov 29 election," said Jauteh.
