PETALING JAYA: More than 10,000 families are seeking shelter at nearly 200 relief centres nationwide due to floods.
According to the National Disaster Command Centre, the number of flood victims increased to 30,056 with one fatality reported as at 4pm yesterday, compared to 22,983 at the same time on Monday.
Floods have affected seven states, namely Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak, Selangor and Pahang.
Kelantan recorded the highest number of evacuees at 10,580.
Floods hit four districts in the state yesterday, namely Tanah Merah, Machang, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang, reported Bernama.
One death was reported in Tanah Merah yesterday, involving an elderly woman aged 70.
The victim was found drowned after the car she was travelling in with her daughter was swept away by strong currents.
In Perlis, the number of evacuees was 6,593 individuals at 21 relief centres.
The number of flood victims in neighbouring Kedah rose to 3,339 people housed at 20 relief centres.
In Terengganu, floods hit the districts of Marang and Besut, forcing 2,416 people to seek shelter.
Selangor recorded 2,409 flood victims at 15 relief centres.
The districts most affected by the floods in Selangor were Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Klang, Hulu Langat and Hulu Selangor.
In Pahang, the National Disaster Command Centre reported that only 19 victims from eight families are still placed at a relief centre in Lipis.
Meanwhile, a Public Works Department spokesperson said two landslides were reported at Jalan Bukit Bendera Upper in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, following continuous heavy rain.
