Immigration offers free passport replacements for flood victims nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department will provide free replacements for lost or damaged Malaysian International Passports (PMA) to flood victims across the country, says Datuk Zakaria Shaaban.

The Immigration director-general said the department is deeply concerned about the difficulties faced by those affected by recent floods and hopes the initiative will help ease their administrative burdens.

"The initiative aims to facilitate the affairs of flood victims and ensure that their travel and official matters can continue without disruption," he said in a statement on Thursday (Nov 27).

Flood victims whose passports were lost or damaged in the disaster may apply for a free replacement at any nearby Immigration office.

To qualify for the waiver, applicants must meet the following requirements:

- The passport must still be valid for at least six months

- Present their MyKad

- Bring the original passport if it is still available

- Provide a copy of the police report for lost passports

- Submit a verification report of the flood incident from the Fire and Rescue Department or local authorities

Zakaria said for further inquiries, applicants can visit any Immigration office for assistance and information.

"We are committed to delivering the best possible service and prioritising public welfare. We hope the initiative will ease the burden on flood victims," he added.
