Number of flood victims rises to 10,750 across eight states


KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims nationwide has risen to 10,750 as of 6am on Monday (Nov 24), according to the Social Welfare Department’s Disaster Info.

Kelantan recorded the highest number with 8,231 people housed at 33 temporary relief centres.

The affected districts include Tumpat, Bachok, Kota Bharu and Pasir Puteh.

Perak is the second worst affected with 907 victims sheltering at 16 centres in Perak Tengah, Manjung, Larut, Matang dan Selama and Batang Padang.

Terengganu recorded 360 victims moved to two centres in the Besut district while

Kedah reported 337 victims at three centres in the Kulim district.

In Perlis, Padang Besar and Kangar saw 268 victims placed at six centres.

Penang reported 237 victims sheltering at four centres in North Seberang Perai and Central Seberang Perai.

Selangor recorded 34 victims from nine families at one centre in Sabak Bernam.

In Sarawak, 44 victims were placed at one centre in the Miri district.

Authorities are monitoring weather and river levels in high risk areas.

The public is advised to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions.
