KUALA LUMPUR: Compound notices have been issued to photo touts offering unlicensed photography service at the PETRONAS Twin Towers.
According to Bernama, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) issued compound notices to 22 individuals during an enforcement operation on Friday.
A DBKL spokesperson said the integrated “KL Strike Force” operation commenced at 9pm and concluded at 11.15pm, targeting unauthorised commercial activities in the area.
“DBKL has seized the business equipment belonging to these individuals.
“The owners may reclaim their equipment once the compound has been settled,” he said at the operation site last night.
The operation was carried out with other agencies, including the police and the National Registration Department.
All those inspected are Malaysians.
The DBKL spokesperson said action against these individuals was taken under the Licensing of Hawkers (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) By-Laws 2016, which carries a maximum compound of RM2,000.
He added that DBKL will continue regular monitoring and patrols in the area, particularly at night, to ensure all business activities are legal.
It is learnt that touts were offering photography service with the PETRONAS Twin Towers as a backdrop at RM5 per photo for Malaysians and RM10 per photo for foreigners.
The Star reported in August 2023 that photo touts were actively operating at the KLCC area, baiting tourists for photos with the skyscraper for a fee.
