PASIR PUTEH: The Kelantan Youth and Sports Department has made urine screening compulsory for members of registered youth organisations at least twice a year to reinforce state efforts to combat drug abuse.
State director Mohd Saipuddin Zakaria said the order also applied to all of the department’s officers and staff in Kelantan to ensure they remain free from drug misuse.
"Every non-governmental organisation registered under the department must conduct urine tests at least twice annually. The same requirement applies to our officers and staff, as we must set an example and protect the department's integrity," he said.
Speaking after the state-level Malaysia Aktif D'Rhu Rehlah programme at Pantai Bisikan Bayu here on Saturday (Nov 22), he said the measure was vital as the department is part of the state's anti-drug committee.
"To date, nearly 80 department officers and staff have been confirmed free of drug abuse based on the screenings," he added.
Mohd Saipuddin said the department was also strengthening cooperation with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), including ensuring that all programmes incorporate talks and awareness activities on the dangers of drug abuse. – Bernama
