THE Malaysian Artistes’ Association (Seniman) has voiced its preparedness to work with the Islamic Development Department on guidelines for the celebrity attire, Berita Harian reported.
“Direct involvement from Seniman would allow us to provide input and explanations from the perspective of industry practitioners. This can prevent misunderstanding or the creation of regulations that are difficult to implement,” said Seniman president Rozaidi Abdul Jamil, who is also known as Zed Zaidi.
This came about following criticisms against girl group Dolla for wearing what was deemed as “revealing outfits” in a music video for their latest song Question.
Their recording company has since removed the video from digital platforms.
Zed advised celebrities to be mindful of their dressing, saying that they should be more sensitive towards matters that could cause public concern.
He said artistic works must follow the culture and regulations of the country.
> R&B and hip-hop group Ruffedge was once paid a mere RM20 in the early days of their career, Kosmo! reported.
“That was during our gig days. We received RM20, which was divided between the five of us. Eventually, the payment increased to thousands of ringgit for a single performance,” said 51-year-old group member Cat Farish.
Despite the low pay, he preferred to look at the big picture.
“For example, university students might invite us to perform with their budget of RM500. But we entertain 1,000 students. So those 1,000 people will then go on and listen to our songs again.
“So that is worthwhile,” said Cat, whose real name is Farish Ramli.
Ruffedge was formed in 1997.
