Former AG Ahmad Terrirudin appointed to JAC, one position still vacant

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Court judge Tan Sri Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh has been appointed to the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC).

In a Federal Government gazette dated Nov 18, and sighted by The Star, it was stated that the Prime Minister had appointed Ahmad Terrirudin as a member of the JAC, pursuant to paragraph 5(1)(e) of the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2009.

The appointment is for a two-year period between Nov 15, 2025 and Nov 14, 2027.

Ahmad Terrirudin's appointment fills in the vacancy left by Federal Court judge Datuk Zabariah Mohd Yusof who retired last month.

This makes him the eighth member of a nine-member panel sitting on the JAC, a body that was established to ensure transparency and to select qualified judges to the superior courts for the Prime Minister's consideration.

The ninth position on the JAC remains vacant as of now, following the retirement of Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Hasnah Mohamed Hashim recently.

Current members of the JAC are Chief Justice Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, Court of Appeal president Datuk Abu Bakar Jais, Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Azizah Nawawi, former attorney general Tan Sri Idrus Harun, former Federal Court judge Tan Sri Zainun Ali, former Sarawak attorney general Datuk Seri Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid, and Universiti Teknologi Mara law lecturer Prof Dr Hartini Saripan.
