Five Myanmar women plead guilty to cheating countrymen with fake jobs


JOHOR BARU: Five Myanmar nationals pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court to cheating their countrymen with fake job offers.

The women are Yan Yone Li, 29, Thi Thi Lwin, 29, Lone Shue, 23, Shwe Nanthar Kyaw, 25, and Eaindray Phyoe, 21.

They admitted to targeting Myanmar nationals by offering non-existent jobs online.

All were charged with criminal conspiracy to commit an unlawful act at a condominium in Forest City, Gelang Patah, at about 7.30pm on Nov 12.

According to the facts, police found WhatsApp exchanges between the women and victims using fake names and profile photos.

The charge, facts and exhibits were read and shown in Mandarin before they pleaded guilty on Wednesday (Nov 19).

The offence under Section 120B(2) of the Penal Code carries up to six months’ jail, a fine or both.

Magistrate Nabilah ordered each accused to pay a fine of RM5,000, in default five months’ jail.

On Nov 15, The Star reported that a call centre run by Myanmar women that had been raking in substantial sums.

Police raided a luxury condominium, arrested five women in their 20s and seized mobile phones and computers.
