WHAT was supposed to be a joyful solemnisation ceremony (akad nikah) for a single mother turned into heartbreak when the bridegroom failed to show up, Kosmo! Online reported.

The bride, Nor Syafiqah Mohd Sharif, 28, was devastated when her fiance never arrived for the ceremony on Saturday in Jitra, Kedah.

“I waited, but he didn’t show up, and he didn’t even answer the phone,” she said, adding that she felt embarrassed in front of around 1,000 guests.

Nor Syafiqah said the 36-year-old man is “a nice person”, and despite his family’s disapproval of their relationship, he wanted to get married.

The night before the event, he had delivered catering supplies as planned and gave no indication of backing out.

“I spent about RM12,000 for this, and it didn’t go as planned.”

Nor Syafiqah has consulted a lawyer and intends to file a lawsuit.

> Harian Metro reported that a 59-year-old man received a gold medal from a blood donation centre after donating blood 71 times.

Johor Baru electrical contractor Tan Teng Sun said he never expected recognition for his contributions.

“I did it to save lives,” said Tan, who began donating blood in 1988 at the age of 22.

“When I donated blood for the first time at a shopping centre, I was a little nervous but continued with the intention of helping people in need, especially during medical emergencies.

“I was told that each donation can save at least three lives. As of today, I’m grateful to have saved 213 lives. It gives me great satisfaction to help in this way.”

> The daily also reported on runner Faisal Shokri, 37, who now spends his days recovering from a serious leg injury at home.

Faisal fractured the tibia in his right leg in a Nov 2 accident in Balakong, Selangor.

“That day, I was so happy because I achieved a personal best, which was one hour and 49 minutes for a 21km run,” he said.

He had proudly posted the achievement on social media.

On his way home, he was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him semi-conscious.

When he awoke fully, he learned that his right leg was broken and already in a cast.

Known online as a “content runner” who shares his running milestones, Faisal’s sudden shift to life in a wheelchair and using a walking aid has since gone viral.
