THE promise of a wartime treasure ended only in loss for a Malaysian businessman who forked out RM50,000 for a “German External Loan Box” that never arrived, Harian Metro reports.

The 45-year-old victim, who wanted to be known only as Ismail, said that, despite making the payments, the supposed box never came.

“I lost RM50,000 for believing such a thing exists. I was just too dumb and gullible to trust people who I did not know,” he said.

“After making the payments, the same individual requested additional amounts. He, however, disappeared after I refused to do so, and the box never came.”

The German External Loan Box is an international financial scam that has existed since the early 2000s.

The box is supposedly a high-value asset from either the Second World War or Cold War periods.

> The daily also reported that collectible figurines have become a draw for avid collectors at car boot sales in Bangi, Selangor.

Harian Metro reported that the weekend sales have also attracted customers from as far as Melaka looking to add to their collections.

Collectors-turned-sellers are also selling off their prized collections here, with some able to find limited items.

“My collectibles grew so much, to the point where I didn’t know where to keep them. Instead of just leaving them as is, I figured it would be better to sell them during my free time,” said trader Muhd Faza Amerudeen Md Fazzilah, 31.

Car boot sales organiser, Hamidah Jusoh, 53, said the collectibles are among the attractions here, adding that they are sold at affordable prices.
