Sabah gets  RM17.5bil  boost to construction projects

PETALING JAYA: Essential public infrastructure in Sabah is set to see a significant boost with RM17.5bil to be allocated for the state in 2026, the Finance Ministry announces.

It said the allocation will be used for core infrastructure projects such as improving roads, telecommunication connectivity, hospitals and electricity supply.

“Major infrastructure projects such as the highly anticipated RM13.9bil Pan Borneo Highway Project have been resumed.

“There will also be improvements to essential facilities, including the Sabah Heart Centre at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital.

“The government will also look to strengthen basic utilities with an allocation of RM1.2bil to ensure electricity supply continuity, and RM765mil for the Southern Link project,” the ministry said in a Facebook post yesterday.

The Southern Link project is a planned 330km grid from Sipitang to Tenom and to Kalabakan and Tawau, aimed at increasing power supply capacity and stability in the region.

The ministry also revealed an undersea cable extension project that will span 3,190km, costing RM2bil, to cover the routes to Tuaran, Kudat, Pulau Banggi, Sandakan and Tawau.

It also announced that a new road connecting Kalabakan in Sabah to Simanggaris in Indonesia will be built alongside the installation of hybrid solar panels in villages across Sabah.

RM1bil will also be allocated to fund Sabah water supply projects.
