Lorry driver burnt to death after lorry veers off road, catches fire


IPOH: A lorry driver was burnt to death after the container lorry he was driving lost control and caught fire at KM254 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound early Wednesday morning (Nov 12).

Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting deputy director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said teams from the Kuala Kangsar and Meru Raya fire stations were dispatched immediately following an emergency call at 3.19am.

"The fire involved a refrigerated container carrying vegetables, believed to have veered off the road before catching fire.

"The victim, a 64-year-old man, was confirmed dead at the scene," she said in a statement on Wednesday.

Shazlean said the victim's body was handed over to the police for further investigation, and the operation was concluded at 5.07am. – Bernama
