Asean Summit, related meetings cost RM184.4mil, says Tok Mat

KUALA LUMPUR: The total estimated cost of hosting the 47th Asean Summit and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 26 to 28 came up to RM184.4mil, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The Foreign Minister said the expenditure was in line with the ceiling approved by the Finance Ministry and carried out according to existing financial procedures, with optimal cost-saving measures in place.

“Malaysia, as this year’s Asean chair, successfully hosted the summit attended by world leaders including the Presidents of the United States, Brazil and South Africa, alongside Asean heads of government,” he said in a written reply to Lim Lip Eng (PH–Kepong) in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Nov 11).

Mohamad said preparations for the high-level meeting began early this year, with close attention given to protocol arrangements, security management and public safety at conference venues and accommodation sites.

“These aspects were given particular emphasis to ensure smooth implementation of all programmes and the safety and comfort of the heads of state, government and their delegations during their stay in Malaysia,” he said.

He said coordination of security and logistics was led by the Foreign Ministry with the involvement of several ministries and agencies, including the Transport Ministry, Home Ministry, Defence Ministry, Health Ministry, Housing and Local Government Ministry, Communications Ministry, the Prime Minister’s Department, and related agencies such as the National Security Council, Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, RTM and Bernama.

“The 47th Asean Summit and related meetings were successfully carried out through careful planning, strong coordination and full commitment from all agencies involved,” he said.

Mohamad added that the event received positive feedback from participating countries and the international community, reflecting Malaysia’s preparedness and organisational capability in hosting major global summits.

“The success of this summit has further elevated Malaysia’s profile and standing on the international stage,” he said.
