Helmetless PH campaign convoy riders to be slapped with summonses

PETALING JAYA: Motorcyclists caught riding without helmets during the Johor state election campaign, including those involved in a Pakatan Harapan (PH) campaign convoy, will be slapped with summonses by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

In a statement, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the department has been ordered to issue summonses to anyone found to have breached the regulations based on the video evidence, regardless of political affiliation.

"There is nothing wrong with riding motorcycles during campaigning, but every rider must wear a helmet and set a good example to the public.

"This includes those involved in the PH campaign convoy in Johor," he said on Friday (July 10).

The order came after mounting online criticism following a viral video clip of the campaign activity in Johor on social media.
