Muhyiddin's graft trial to start in March


KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's corruption case involving power abuse and money laundering linked to the Jana Wibawa project will begin in March.

High Court judge Justice Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin fixed a 29-day hearing here during case mention on Monday (Nov 10).

This is the first mention before Justice Noor Ruwena as she takes over the case.

The previous judge, Justice K. Muniandy, has been elevated to the Court of Appeal.

The hearing dates are March 9-11; April 13, 16, 28 and 29; May 25 and 26; July 6-10, 13-17 and 27-29; and Aug 21, 26 and 27.

The court also fixed Nov 18 to hear an application by the Bersatu president, who is seeking temporary access to his passport; and Nov 27 for the next mention date.

Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin told the court that about 30 prosecution witnesses will be called to testify.

Muhyiddin was exempted from attending today's proceedings.

The former prime minister was charged with four counts of using his position to obtain bribes totalling RM232.5mil in connection with the Jana Wibawa Project from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd, Mamfor Sdn Bhd, and Datuk Azman Yusoff for Bersatu.

He allegedly committed the offence at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya between March 1, 2020, and Aug 20, 2021.

Muhyiddin also faces three charges of receiving RM200mil from illegal activities, deposited into Bersatu's AmBank and CIMB Bank accounts.

The offences were allegedly committed at AmBank, Amcorp Mall branch, Petaling Jaya on Jan 7, 2022, and at CIMB Bank, Menara KL Branch, Jalan Stesen Sentral between February 25 and July 16, 2021, and Feb 8 and July 8, 2022.
