BALIK PULAU: The open payment toll collection system using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology is currently at the request for proposal (RFP) stage, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
The Works Minister said that the Ministry is inviting interested parties to submit proposals for implementing the barrier-free toll system, which is part of strategic measures towards a more efficient Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system.
"We also apply the business-to-business method and remain open to proposals from interested parties.
"The implementation of the barrier-free toll system is expected to be finalised next year, as we want to ensure thorough attention to detail due to its significant implications for various parties," he said after visiting the slope repair project on the FT006 route, Section 40.84 of Jalan Balik Pulau-Teluk Bahang on Saturday (Nov 8).
The ANPR system identifies vehicle registration numbers via cameras, enabling digital toll payments without cash, while also offering e-invoice displays, transaction verification, and various other mobility services through an integrated digital platform.
Users only need to register online using their personal identification, vehicle details, and preferred payment method.
Meanwhile, Nanta mentioned that Works Ministry had conducted a comprehensive study by reviewing the implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in several developed countries.
"I have just returned from South Korea with representatives from the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Ministry. We have also visited other countries several times to observe how they implement ITS," he added. – Bernama
