KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is continuing efforts to coordinate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, with the government working closely with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) under the Ops Ihsan initiative, says Datuk Mohamad Alamin.
The Deputy Foreign Minister said Wisma Putra recently chaired a coordination meeting on Oct 21 involving 12 NGOs to streamline logistics and ensure that aid reaches Gaza in the near future.
He added that the meeting followed a recent engagement between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to strengthen the country’s humanitarian response.
"Among the aid identified as a priority, includes essential supplies such as food, clean water, cooking oil, medicines and medical services.
“With winter approaching, cold-weather assistance including blankets and warm clothing is also urgently needed,” he said in his winding-up speech for the Supply Bill 2026 for his ministry in parliament today (Nov 6)
On Wednesday (Oct 5) Mercy Malaysia said it has resumed its specialised medical deployments to Gaza, with the SCT 6 team currently delivering vital healthcare services including orthopedic surgeries and consultations, dialysis, and maternal care at Al-Shifa Hospital and its affiliated facilities.
"Our medical volunteers, operating as a specialised surgical unit, remain committed to saving lives.
"They continue to provide urgent care to the wounded and deliver critical treatment to those in need of specialised medical attention.
"Mercy Malaysia remains steadfast in supporting healthcare recovery efforts. We continue to restore access to life-saving services and uphold the right to health for all," it said in a statement.
