Monitor lizard becomes man’s last meal

IN a bizarre turn of events, a man in Cambodia died from food poisoning after catching, roasting and eating a monitor lizard and its eggs, reported China Press.

The man’s body was found the next morning, on Oct 30, at a village in the Mongkol Borey district located in northwestern Cambodia.

A boy and a girl, both 10, who lived nearby, saw the man drinking alone in his house at 4.30pm on Oct 29.

According to them, the man spotted a lizard nearby and caught it with his hands.

He then skinned the reptile along with the eggs found in its body before eating them.

The children said they had tried to warn him not to eat the eggs for fear of poisoning, but the man ignored them.

At around 8.10am the next day, a neighbour saw the man lying motionless in a hammock with vomit on the ground beneath him.

According to police, an autopsy concluded that the man had died from food poisoning.
