Wong Shu Qi appointed DAP election director ahead of GE16, Johor Elections

SEGAMAT: Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi has been chosen as the party’s election director for the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16) and Johor Election.

DAP vice-chairman Teo Nie Ching, who is also the Johor DAP chief, said that while the party gears up for the Sabah Election, it should also be prepared for the Johor Election and GE16.

“Wong is capable of leading the party in GE16 and Johor Election, though we are not sure whether they will be held concurrently or not. If you ask me, I prefer them to run together to save time and resources,” she said in her speech at the Johor DAP convention at a hall here on Sunday (Nov 2).

Wong, who is also the party’s assistant national publicity secretary, replaces Teo as election director.

Teo, also Deputy Communication Minister, said Wong would be assisted by Stulang assemblyman Andrew Chen (Johor DAP secretary), state DAP vice-chief Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali and Johor Jaya assemblyman Liow Cai Tung (state DAP organising secretary).

She also said the state committee would be supporting Sabah DAP in their state election set for later this month.

She said they have appointed Johor DAP education director Alan Tee Boon Tsong as the polling agent/counting agent director to lead their efforts in Sabah.

“We will be sending a team of more than 20 members to assist our counterparts in Sabah, and we will sponsor the flight tickets of those who are willing to assist with campaigning efforts for at least seven days,” Teo added.

Sabah will head to the polls on Nov 29, with nomination day set for Nov 15 and early voting on Nov 25.
