Two army officers deny injuring subordinate

MELAKA: Two military officers with the rank of captain pleaded not guilty in the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court to a charge of injuring their subordinate, a second lieutenant, at Terendak Camp, Sungai Udang, last February.

According to the charge sheet, Mohamad Solehudin Darus, 30, and Ahmad Hazlan Haris Azman, 28, are accused of intentionally causing injuries to the 26-year-old victim’s face, back and thighs.

The offence was allegedly committed in front of the officers’ mess of the 1st Royal Artillery Regiment at Terendak Camp between 2.30am and 6am on Feb 22, Bernama reported.

The charge, framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same law, provides for a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, upon conviction.

The prosecution proposed that bail be set at RM10,000 for each accused.

Representation for both accused appealed for a lower bail amount of between RM1,000 and RM2,000, citing that they have families to support and have long served without any disciplinary record.

Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman allowed bail of RM3,000 for each accused.

The case has been fixed for mention and submission of documents on Dec 18.
