ISKANDAR PUTERI: More than 350,000 users have registered for the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) to use QR code lanes at the Johor-Singapore border.
Johor works, transportation, infrastructure and communication committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said uptake among Malaysian users, however, remained lower than expected.
“As of today (Oct 30), some 358,000 people have registered for NIISe and I hope to see more participation from Malaysians.
“For motorcycles, which began trial run on Oct 15, about 15,000 Malaysians and 800 Singaporeans have used the system to date, so a total of about 16,000 users in the first two weeks,” he told the media on Thursday (Oct 30).
He said there are seven motorcycle QR lanes (outbound) at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) customs, immigration and quarantine complex in Johor Baru, while at the KSAB, there are four lanes each for inbound and outbound.
Additional inbound motorcycle lanes are also being fitted with the NIISe system at BSI, Mohamad Fazli said, adding that users were mostly satisfied with the system so far.
He also urged more Malaysians to download the MyNIISe app and register as they can use it for cars, motorcycles and even buses.
The trial run for the QR code system for immigration clearance in the motorcycle and pedestrian lanes at the two land checkpoints in Johor to Singapore began on Oct 15 while the trial run for cars rolled out on Sept 22.
The NIISe system is open not only to Malaysians and Singaporeans but also to travellers from 63 countries who may use the QR code to enter Malaysia.
Citizens from 71 countries can use the system for departure.
The exercise will run until Feb 28 next year. During the trial, the existing QR code system and the MyBorderPass app will remain valid for entry and exit.
