MACC to look into aerotrain if graft found

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will act only if corruption is found to be linked to the aerotrain service disruptions, says its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

He said no complaints had been filed so far.

“If it is under our jurisdiction, then surely we will investigate, but if not, then we can’t,” he said after closing the 21st Principals Meeting of the Asean Parties Against Corruption yesterday.

It was reported that Transport Minister Anthony Loke had instructed the Land Public Transport Agency to investigate Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd following disruptions to the aerotrain service.

On the whereabouts of Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, Azam said he might be using a non-Malaysian passport.

“His Malaysian passport has been cancelled, so his ability to move to other countries is likely due to him using a different passport. I am confident it is not a Malaysian one,” he said.

Muhammad Adlan, who is the son-in-law of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, is wanted for alleged criminal breach of trust.

Azam said tracing Muhammad Adlan’s assets overseas is not an easy process as it requires collaboration with foreign agencies.

“Give us time to track down these assets. Another thing is even if we can trace his assets overseas, we need to see if they are related to the case we are investigating,” he said.

The MACC has yet to determine if a proxy had been used by Muhammad Adlan to manage his assets abroad.

“We will not be calling in more (people) because to us, the case has been completed,” Azam said, adding that all that remains is to charge Muhammad Adlan and his lawyer, Mansoor Saat, 70, who had also fled the country.
