Indonesian motorcyclist dies, local teen injured in Yong Peng accident


BATU PAHAT: An Indonesian man died on the spot after being involved in an accident at Batu 2, Jalan Kangkar Baru-Paloh in Yong Peng, Batu Pahat.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the incident between two motorcycles happened on Thursday (Oct 30) at 7.40am

He said the 17-year-old boy was riding a motorcycle from Kangkar Baru towards SMK Yong Peng when he collided with another motorcyclist exiting the intersection.

“The motorcycle exiting the intersection abruptly was ridden by the 48-year-old Indonesian man," ACP Shahrulanuar said in a statement.

He said the victim suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Yong Peng Health Clinic.

“The 17-year-old local boy sustained injuries on his face and neck," added ACP Shahrulanuar.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving or dangerous driving.

Under the section, it carries penalties of a jail term of five to 10 years, a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000, and a driving ban of at least five years upon conviction.
