Beware of phishing emails impersonating The Star

PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group Berhad, which publishes The Star print products and online portal, refers to a phishing email misusing The Star's brand identity.

It has come to the group’s attention that phishing emails impersonating The Star have been sent out to various groups and companies.

The fake email warns recipients against using content without permission from The Star.

It also urges users to take immediate steps by clicking on links in the email.

The Star does not send out such emails.

Fraudulent emails impersonating The Star are used for phishing attacks and to trick recipients into downloading malicious software.

Anyone receiving any suspicious communication claiming to be from Star Media Group should verify it through Star's official channels before taking any action.

Recipients are urged to ignore these fraudulent emails and report them to the appropriate authorities.

As such, anyone receiving these phishing emails should refrain from clicking any link within said emails, and report the matter to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

Any legitimate security communications or content breach notifications from Star Media Group will always be sent through its established, official channels and proper protocols.
