Three arrested with over 10kg of narcotics in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested three local men after they were caught with more than 10kg of drugs worth over RM1.3mil during a narcotics operation here.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said that, acting on information gathered, police raided a residential area in Tampoi between 6pm and 10pm last Wednesday (Oct 22).

“My men successfully arrested three suspects, aged 27 to 42, during the operation. Further checks inside the premises led to the seizure of various types of drugs,” he said at a press conference at the Johor Baru North police district headquarters on Tuesday (Oct 28).

ACP Balveer said among the seized drugs were 8.16kg of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), 2.4kg of ecstasy powder, 24.7g of ketamine, 6.4g of ecstasy pills and 3.2g of Erimin 5 pills.

He said police also confiscated equipment and tools used by one of the suspects to process the drugs.

“Two of the suspects, who work as a labourer and a shop assistant, were in the midst of buying drugs from the third suspect, who acted as a trafficker. This syndicate has been active in trafficking drugs using the house as a processing centre since April this year.

“Based on the seized drugs, we believe the supply could feed a total of 35,580 addicts,” he said, adding that two of the suspects have five previous records for drug- and crime-related offences between them.

ACP Balveer said police also seized two cars and a motorcycle from the suspects, worth more than RM113,000.

He added that all three suspects tested positive for drugs and have been remanded until Wednesday (Oct 29) to assist in investigations.

“Police are investigating the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The success of this case is due to intelligence gathering and public cooperation.

“Police will not compromise with any individuals involved in drug-related activities,” he said, urging those with information on criminal activities to contact the Johor Baru North police district hotline at 07-5563122.
