Cement factory near Kuala Kangsar catches fire

IPOH: A cement factory in Padang Rengas near Kuala Kangsar caught fire on Monday (Oct 27).

Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the fire involved the furnace system.

“The fire is about 15 metres high and covers an area of approximately 30 by 20 square feet.

“A distress call was received at 2.19pm. About 50% of the furnace system was damaged and no injuries were reported,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 28).

He also said that the operations commander conducted a size-up and applied the Receo concept (rescue, exposure, confinement, extinguishment, and overhaul) before instructing firefighters to wear full PPE and breathing apparatus.

“Firefighting operations were carried out from the top of the furnace using one line with two 100-foot jets and two hose reel lines connected to a high-pressure fire hydrant until the blaze was fully extinguished,” he said.
