New Zealand PM Luxon arrives for RCEP and East Asia Summit at KLCC

KUALA LUMPUR: New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has arrived at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre for the high level Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Summit and the East Asia Summit.

The two meetings are part of the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits.

Luxon arrived at 2.12pm and was welcomed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Asean-led RCEP is the world’s largest trade pact, and involves all 10 Asean members and five partners: New Zealand, China, Japan, South Korea and Australia.

It came into force in 2022 and aims to lower tariffs, boost investment and allow freer movement of goods within the region.

Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Chile and Bangladesh have recently expressed interest in joining the RCEP.

The East Asia Summit will involve 19 participants.

They are the Asean member states, Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia and the United States.
