SEREMBAN: Perikatan Nasional election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor will be summoned by police over remarks he allegedly made during a ceramah while campaigning in the Negri Sembilan state election, says Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.
The Negri Sembilan police chief said several witnesses had already been called in to have their statements recorded.
“We have recorded statements from several individuals and expect to call in the PAS leader soon to complete our investigation.” He said the investigation stems from two police reports.
The first, lodged by a 40-year-old man in Jempol last Friday, is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making statements conducive to public mischief.
The second, lodged by a 45-year-old man at the Senawang police station on Sunday, is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for the improper use of network facilities or network services. DCP Alzafny declined to confirm the total number of police reports lodged against Sanusi, who is also the Kedah Mentri Besar.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, DCP Alzafny said police would also summon an Umno leader over remarks allegedly claiming that the Negri Sembilan palace was controlled by a political party.
“The Rembau Umno information chief will be called in soon to assist in the investigation.
“We have, in the meantime, recorded statements from several witnesses.”
He added that police had received 11 reports on the matter as of Monday.
DCP Alzafny said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission would also be asked to assist in the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. On Monday, the Negri Sembilan palace denied any involvement with political parties contesting the Aug 1 state election.
Comptroller of the Royal House-hold Datuk Azizi Mohamad Ali advised candidates not to drag the monarchy into their election campaigns and speeches.
