KUALA LUMPUR: Indera Mahkota MP Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah has demanded Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin step down as Bersatu president, claiming the former Prime Minister has lost the leadership qualities he once possessed.

In a report from Sinar Harian, Saifuddin said that Muhyiddin was no longer the leader he was when the party was first established.

"The core issue is that he (Muhyiddin) has lost his leadership qualities. He is no longer the Tan Sri Muhyiddin we knew before," he said, confirming that he and several other Bersatu members had issued a joint statement making the demand.

Saifuddin also questioned Muhyiddin's management of the party's top leadership, describing it as no longer inclusive, and cited the failure to convene a Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) meeting.

"He doesn't call an MPT meeting, so how are we supposed to discuss things?" he said.

In addition to demanding Muhyiddin's resignation, Saifuddin also called for two other key party leaders, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Tun Faizal Ismail Aziz, to relinquish their respective posts.

Meanwhile, he also described Bersatu Information Chief Tun Faizal as failing to carry out his true role in disseminating party information.

"Tun Faizal does not carry out his duties as Information Chief," he said.

Elaborating further, Saifuddin stressed that the demand made by him and several other leaders was not aimed at destroying the party, but rather at saving Bersatu from being further damaged by the current leadership.

"What we are doing does not violate the constitution. We don't want to tarnish the party, but want to save it from those who are currently tarnishing the party," he said.
